Oman ranks #9 in the world for Safety and Security in the most recent T&T Report.

Continuing the positive news for the Sultanate of Oman the World Economic Forum (WEF) has just published the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2015.  The report, which rated 141 countries, places Oman in the top 10 in terms of Safety and Security.

The strong showing in the safety and security section of the report is a positive indicator for the growing tourism industry in the Sultanate of Oman.  Particularly so when the preface of the same report stated in rather dramatic terms that the “world has been facing geopolitical tensions …, growing terrorism threats and fear of the spread of global pandemics.”  In such a world safety and security issues take on added significance and relevance.

Other observations and comments from the report:

WEF | The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2015 (Oman)
  • Overall the GCC countries have done well in the Safety and Security ratings - with Qatar at #2 and the UAE at #3.  In seeking a safe and secure holiday destination the tourists of the world would do well to spend their time in these Arabian havens.
  • The overall travel and tourism competitiveness index for 2015 placed Oman at a more modest #65.  This was a result of Oman performing poorly in other sections (or pillars as referred to within the report).
  • Notable poor results were International Openness (#119) which is being addressed in part with the positive developments that the Royal Omani Police (ROP) are taking with issuing visas; and Natural and Cultural Resources (#93) which will improve dramatically with the opening in 2016 of the Oman Exhibition and Convention Centre and ongoing international acceptance of the Royal Opera House Muscat, the first Opera House in the region.
  • The two page profile of Oman within the report highlights other interesting statistics and viewpoints of the Sultanate.  It is here that you will see how Oman compares with other countries in more than 100 categories.

Such an overall positive affirmation of the tourism strengths of Oman from a leading international organisation adds significant gravitas to the image of the Sultanate of Oman within the international community and specifically the tourism sector.  The outcomes of the report clearly support the efforts of His Majesty’s Government.
